Panda Toy Sculpture
Artist Statement
The material and the object itself both go hand
in hand, stemming from a simpler time; childhood and memories that seem long
past in this current climate. Both remain in the context of childhood, yet
still existing amongst us. It was this old, forgotten childhood toy that
inspired the sculpture. The pose of this discarded object flopped over, and
consigned to oblivion relates to the pliable and inexpensive nature of the
play-dough. The material itself is reminiscent of childhood, we all can call
back a time when our small hands played with this material, creating our own
masterpieces. The shape of the object replicated the organic shape of the
stuffed animal; while existing in a pose that is unnatural. I arranged these shaped
to communicate a slumped form, as it lives, forlorn, and forgotten. This piece exists
as a memory recreated reminiscing over the passing of childhood, untouched by
time and forgotten.
