Artist Statement

For this project, I was allocated a maximum of three materials. To best represent my memory, I used white gesso, wood, and black ribbon.  The memory pertains to somewhat upsetting events. The deconstruction of the room using the wood to create the structure represent my feelings towards these events, a sense of confinement and destabilization. Some days it felt like the world was crumbling down around me. The white gesso represents the emptiness of the room, not so much from the lack of objects placed in this room, but from the feelings of dissociation and detachment, I felt towards this place. The black ribbon was used to mimic how delicately all these memories and feelings were being held together.
